Customer Home Improvements
Boston Mayflower is happy for you to carry out home improvements and alterations, at your own expense, but providing you get written permission before you start. We will also expect you to have a clear rent account before you spend money on home improvements.
On the 1st January 2005 Part P of the Building Regulations came into force. What this regulation means is that most do-it-yourself electrical work must now be carried out by a person or firm registered with a Part P self certification scheme. The electrical work must comply with Part P of the Building Regulations and a certificate of compliance must be sent to the local council Building Control department and to ourselves. Please remember that your tenancy conditions allow us to put right any home improvement work not carried out properly and that we can make a charge for this. There are some exceptions to the scheme such as pre-assembled C E-marked garden lighting sets.
If you are uncertain about any electrical work that you intend doing or simply require more information please contact us and we will be happy to help. There is also a very good website available at www.niceic.org.uk, and http://www.findanelectrician.info/ click on Domestic Installers and Part P, then click on To Notify or not? That is the question. Any electrical installation or repair work that Boston Mayflower organises through their contractors will always be completed in accordance with the proper legislation.
We have included a list of the most common items that you would need to have permission for. Although the list is by no means exhaustive it should cover most improvements that people are likely to want to carry out.
