Here are some tips to help save energy in the home:

* If you are on gas or electric have a look at www.uSwitch.com to make sure you are on the best tariff

* The Home Heat Helpline on 0800 336699 can offer impartial advice

* If you are elderly try http://www.ageuk.org.uk/buy/gas-and-electricity/age-uk-energy/ to get the best tariff

* Turn your Thermostat down slightly – even a 1 degree reduction can result in a saving of up to 10%

* Check for draughts around doors/windows, and close your curtains at dusk to avoid heat loss

* Don’t leave appliances on standby – this uses unnecessary energy

* Fully load your washing machine; several small loads is more expensive than one big one

* Use energy saving light bulbs where possible

Remember, there is no single way to beat the rising cost of heating your home - it’s about doing a number of practical things that can help reduce the financial impact.
