What is a tenants’ right to repair?
If we don’t do your repair in time you can tell us to get a second contractor to carry out the work instead. Unless there is good reason why the work hasn’t been done we will get a second contractor to do it. The second contractor then has the same amount of time to do the repairs as the first one had.
If the second contractor doesn’t do your repair in the time you may get compensation. The amount of the compensation is equal to £10 plus an additional £2 for each day’s delay in completing the repair, subject to a maximum of £50 total compensation. However, if you owe Boston Mayflower any money we will take away the amount you owe from your compensation.
Sometimes there may be a good reason why a repair can’t be carried out. For example, if you didn’t keep your appointment to let the contractor in, or it wasn’t possible to carry out the works because of the weather conditions etc. then we won’t have to pay you any compensation.
