Frozen or Burst Pipes

Burst pipes can cause great inconvenience and expense. The danger is greatest where your home is unoccupied and has no back ground heating, especially during cold weather. We recommend that you do the following:

When you leave your home empty for short periods, leave the heating on at a normal setting.

When you leave your home empty for longer periods please contact Boston Mayflower to discuss turning off your stop tap and draining down the complete system. When this is carried out it is essential that the heating system is also switched off.

In severe cold weather, try to keep your home warm, day and night.

Report any dripping taps or overflows immediately.

If you get a frozen pipe

Turn off the water at the stop valve.

Turn on all taps on sinks and baths.

If possible, collect water in the bath for flushing the toilet and washing.

Water Supply

The following points will help you to reduce the risk of water damage to your home and possessions.

Stop Tap

Stop taps are very important. They control the flow of water into your home. You need to make sure that you know where your stop tap is in your home. This will help you if you have a leak. Most stop taps are fitted in the bathroom or kitchen, for example below a kitchen sink.

We recommend that you turn off your water supply each year to test that your stop tap is in good working order. If you have any problems with your stop tap please report this immediately.

Please contact the 24 hour Freephone repairs on 0800 169 1530 if you cannot find or have any problems with your stop tap.
